A real triumph of the 1960s was the complete elucidation of what lies in store for the Sun. The gradual brightening, the hydrogen core exhaustion, the ascent to become a red giant. To quote Paul Bowles, “first warmth, then heat, thirst, fire, visions.”

The Henyey method made this possible. Working with Peter Bodenheimer, who was on scene at Berkeley when the original code was being developed, we’ve guided Claude Code running Fable to write a working reconstruction of the source listing, along with a period-perfect revival of the IBM 7094 Fortran IV compiler.
